Privacy Policy for ByeCut
Effective date: 7 October 2026
Applies to: the ByeCut iPhone and iPad app

The short version
The current app asks you to sign in with Apple. Editing, captions and exports happen on your device. When you choose to run AI Edit, we send audio-only copies of your clips and the related text to OpenAI to create your edit, after asking your permission. You can choose to sync projects to your iCloud Drive or share finished videos with other apps. We don't sell your data or show ads in the app.
Who we are
ByeCut is made by Thinkbyte SRL ("we", "us"). We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: info@thinkbyte.tech.
What stays on your iPhone
Your projects, imported videos, photos, voiceovers, captions, edits and exports are stored on your device. On-device features, including captions, face retouching and background removal, run there. If you turn on iCloud sync for a project, it is stored in your own iCloud Drive by Apple, and we can't access it. If you choose a social sharing action, the finished export is saved to Photos and the selected app may receive it.
What we collect and why
Temporary anonymous user ID
- When: Created automatically before Apple sign-in
- Why: To preserve usage while you sign in and link the session to your account
- Who processes it: Supabase (our backend)
Audio-only copies of your clips, the transcript, your script and notes
- When: Only when you run AI Edit, after you agree on the consent screen
- Why: To transcribe your takes, choose the best ones and review the finished cut
- Who processes it: Raw audio passes through our backend in memory only to OpenAI. Scripts, notes, transcripts and results are saved in Supabase to recover interrupted AI Edits.
Your assistant request and a description of your timeline
- When: Only when you use the AI editing assistant with the online option. Media files are never included.
- Why: To propose edits
- Who processes it: Our backend, then OpenAI
AI Edit run records
- What: Run and project IDs, seconds of source footage, script/notes presence, clip count, language, progress, results, retries and dates
- When: Each AI Edit run
- Why: To recover interrupted edits, understand run reliability, count your one-time free edit and your plan's allowance, and prevent abuse
- Who processes it: Supabase
Your Apple account identifier, and an email address if Apple sends one
- When: When you sign in with Apple, as required by the current app. The email is often a private relay.
- Why: To keep your AI Edit allowance and subscription when you change device. We never ask Apple for your name.
- Who processes it: Apple, Supabase
A one-way hash of your Apple identifier
- What: The hash, together with the amount of free AI Edit footage allowance it has used
- When: When you sign in, and when you delete your account
- Why: So the one-time free edit can't be reset by deleting and recreating an account. It can't be reversed into an Apple Account and contains no name or email.
- Who processes it: Supabase
Subscription and purchase status
- When: If you subscribe or restore purchases
- Why: To unlock your plan
- Who processes it: Apple, RevenueCat
Usage events with an install identifier
- What: Events such as "export finished" or "AI Edit started"
- When: While you use the app, unless you turn it off in Settings → Privacy
- Why: To understand which features work and fix problems. AI Edit events include run and project IDs that can be linked to your account's run records. These events never include your videos, audio, captions, project names, prompts or transcripts.
- Who processes it: PostHog
Feedback reports
- What: Your report, an optional contact email, device and app details, and crash text you choose to attach
- When: When you submit feedback in Settings
- Why: To investigate the report and reply if you provide an email
- Who processes it: Supabase
Video frames are never uploaded by ByeCut.
AI processing by OpenAI
AI Edit and the online editing assistant use OpenAI's API. We send requests with storage turned off. Under OpenAI's API terms, the data is not used to train OpenAI's models, and it may be kept for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring before deletion. Our backend saves AI Edit run settings, scripts, notes, transcripts, AI responses and final editing results in Supabase, linked to your account and project, so the app can recover interrupted runs. It does not save raw audio or video there. Online editing assistant requests pass through without being saved in these recovery tables. You can withdraw your consent at any time in Settings → AI Edit → Stop Sharing Audio with AI. AI Edit then asks again before sending anything.
Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
- Performance of a contract: running AI Edit, counting your allowance and providing your subscription.
- Consent: sending your audio and text to OpenAI. You can withdraw it in Settings.
- Legitimate interests: anonymous product analytics to improve the app, and preventing abuse — including the hashed record that stops the free allowance being reset. You can opt out of analytics in Settings.
How long we keep data
- AI Edit recovery content: saved in Supabase until your account is deleted, including by the inactive-account cleanup below. OpenAI may keep API content for up to 30 days, as described above. Raw audio and video are not saved in our recovery backend.
- Anonymous user ID and usage records: while your account is in use, and deleted within 24 months of inactivity.
- The hashed free-allowance record: kept after account deletion, and removed after 24 months without a sign-in.
- Analytics events: up to 24 months.
- Feedback reports: while needed to investigate and respond, or until the associated account is deleted.
- Purchase records: as long as required for accounting and App Store obligations.
Sharing
We share data with the service providers listed above: Supabase, OpenAI, RevenueCat, PostHog and Apple. Social apps receive exports only when you choose to share. We may also disclose data when required by law. We do not sell or rent personal data. Meta conversion measurement is present in the app code but is disabled until its separate credentials are configured; this policy will be updated before it is enabled.
International transfers
Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.
Accounts and deletion
The current app requires Sign in with Apple. Its temporary anonymous session's AI Edit usage moves onto your signed-in account. You can sign out in Settings → Account, which returns the install to a fresh temporary anonymous session; sign in again to use the app.
Deleting your account is in the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account. It permanently removes your ByeCut account, your remaining AI Edit allowance, your AI Edit usage history and saved recovery content from our servers. One thing is deliberately kept: a one-way hash of your Apple identifier together with how much of the free footage allowance it has already used, so the free edit can't be restarted by deleting the account. It holds nothing else about you and is deleted after 24 months. Projects on your device are not affected, and a subscription is managed by Apple, so cancel it in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, and object to or restrict its processing. Because we don't know who you are, include your Support ID from Settings → About (tap it to copy) in your request. Deleting the app removes local data. Contact info@thinkbyte.tech. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
ByeCut is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA), and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change what we share with AI providers, we'll update this page and ask for your consent again in the app. The effective date above shows the latest version.
