The short version

You don't need an account. Editing, captions and exports happen on your iPhone and your videos never leave it. When you choose to run AI Edit, we send audio-only copies of your clips and the related text to OpenAI to create your edit, after asking your permission. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across apps.

Who we are

What stays on your iPhone

Your projects, imported videos, photos, voiceovers, captions, edits and exports are stored on your device. On-device features, including captions, face retouching and background removal, run on your iPhone. If you turn on iCloud sync for a project, it is stored in your own iCloud Drive by Apple, and we can't access it.

What we collect and why

Anonymous user ID

  • When: Created automatically the first time the app connects
  • Why: To keep track of your free AI Edit minutes and subscription allowance. It is not tied to your name, email or Apple Account.
  • Who processes it: Supabase (our backend)

Audio-only copies of your clips, the transcript, your script and notes

  • When: Only when you run AI Edit, after you agree on the consent screen
  • Why: To transcribe your takes, choose the best ones and review the finished cut
  • Who processes it: Passes through our backend in memory only, to OpenAI

Your assistant request and a description of your timeline

  • When: Only when you use the AI editing assistant with the online option. Media files are never included.
  • Why: To propose edits
  • Who processes it: Our backend, then OpenAI

AI Edit usage records

  • What: Minutes of footage per run, number of requests, date
  • When: Each AI Edit run
  • Why: To count your free minutes and your plan's minutes, and to prevent abuse
  • Who processes it: Supabase

Apple account identifier, and an email address if Apple sends one

  • When: Only if you choose Sign in with Apple. The email is often a private relay. We never ask Apple for your name.
  • Why: To keep your AI Edit minutes and subscription when you change device
  • Who processes it: Apple, Supabase

A one-way hash of your Apple identifier

  • What: The hash, together with the number of free AI Edit minutes that identifier has used
  • When: When you sign in, and when you delete your account
  • Why: So the one-time free allowance can't be reset by deleting and recreating an account. It can't be reversed into an Apple Account and contains no name or email.
  • Who processes it: Supabase

Subscription and purchase status

  • When: If you subscribe or restore purchases
  • Why: To unlock your plan
  • Who processes it: Apple, RevenueCat

Anonymous usage events

  • What: Events such as "export finished" or "AI Edit started"
  • When: While you use the app, unless you turn it off in Settings → Privacy
  • Why: To understand which features work and fix problems. These events never include your videos, audio, captions, project names, prompts or transcripts.
  • Who processes it: PostHog

Video frames are never uploaded by AutoCut.

AI processing by OpenAI

AI Edit and the online editing assistant use OpenAI's API. We send requests with storage turned off. Under OpenAI's API terms, the data is not used to train OpenAI's models, and it may be kept for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring before deletion. Our backend passes the content through without saving it. You can withdraw your consent at any time in Settings → AI Edit → Stop Sharing Audio with AI. AI Edit then asks again before sending anything.

Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

  • Performance of a contract: running AI Edit, counting minutes and providing your subscription.
  • Consent: sending your audio and text to OpenAI. You can withdraw it in Settings.
  • Legitimate interests: anonymous product analytics to improve the app, and preventing abuse — including the hashed record that stops the free allowance being reset. You can opt out of analytics in Settings.

How long we keep data

  • AI content: not stored by us. OpenAI keeps it for up to 30 days, as described above.
  • Anonymous user ID and usage records: while your account is in use, and deleted within 24 months of inactivity.
  • The hashed free-allowance record: kept after account deletion, and removed after 24 months without a sign-in.
  • Analytics events: up to 24 months.
  • Purchase records: as long as required for accounting and App Store obligations.

Sharing

We share data only with the service providers listed above, which process it on our behalf: Supabase, OpenAI, RevenueCat, PostHog and Apple. We may also disclose it when required by law. We do not sell or rent personal data, and we don't use it for advertising or tracking.

International transfers

Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

Accounts and deletion

You don't need an account. If you sign in with Apple, your anonymous account's AI Edit usage moves onto it, so your remaining free minutes come with you. You can sign out at any time in Settings → Account, which returns the app to a fresh anonymous account.

Deleting your account is in the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account. It permanently removes your AutoCut account, your remaining minutes and your AI Edit usage history from our servers. One thing is deliberately kept: a one-way hash of your Apple identifier together with how many free minutes it has already used, so the free trial can't be restarted by deleting the account. It holds nothing else about you and is deleted after 24 months. Projects on your iPhone are not affected, and a subscription is managed by Apple, so cancel it in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, and object to or restrict its processing. Because we don't know who you are, include your Support ID from Settings → About (tap it to copy) in your request. Deleting the app removes local data. Contact info@thinkbyte.tech. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

AutoCut is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA), and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change what we share with AI providers, we'll update this page and ask for your consent again in the app. The effective date above shows the latest version.
